Description
Montreal-based artist and filmmaker Jon Rafman is best known for his work focusing on technology and digital media. This unique work entitled Warhol Miner (2010) depicts a centered, solitary mine worker with axe raised. Onto the figure and his surroundings, Rafman has projected Pop artist Andy Warhol's famed portraits of Chinese ruler Mao Zedong. Rafman’s inclusion of Warhol’s work references how pop culture ephemera and media advertising shape our desires and threaten to define our being. Rafman’s work both celebrates and critiques contemporary culture, revealing the origins of modern loneliness and alienation.
