Italian photographer Massimo Vitali began his iconic photographic series, Landscapes with Figures, in the early 1990s, first depicting populated beaches and later expanding his scenes to include pools, ski resorts, piazzas, and other sites of leisure and tourism around the world. Vitali's images are crowded, dense, and rich with banal detail, capturing groups of people congregating closely together: wedged on a strip of beach, sunbathing or milling about at seaside resorts. Bagni Lido Verticale is an excellent example of Vitali's landscapes, incorporating glimpses of the every day into his compositions. The Landscapes with Figures portfolio was published by Brancolini Grimaldi Arte Contemporanea and printed by Steidl Verlag in 2006.
